Information about the Red Wing Fire Department:

The mission of the Red Wing Fire Department is to enhance the safety of the community by providing cost effective protection of life and property, through fire prevention, public education, fire suppression, and emergency medical care.

The Red Wing Fire Department (RWFD) is a fire based EMS provider comprised of 25 full time firefighter/paramedics, 24 paid on call firefighter/first responders and 1 part time administrative support person.  In addition to fire protection services, RWFD provides Advanced Life Support (Paramedic) ambulance services to the City of Red Wing and surrounding communities.  RWFD is staffed 24 hours a day with 7 people assigned to each of 3 shifts.  All full time personnel are cross trained as firefighter/paramedics.  All paid on call personnel are cross trained as firefighter/first responders. 

Additional services provided by the Red Wing Fire Department include: fire and EMS public education, fire inspections, fire code enforcement and interpretation, fire sprinkler and alarm plan review, pre-fire planning, and fire investigations.  The Red Wing Fire Department also responds to high angle rope rescue and ice rescue incidents, auto extrications, marina and boat fire, hazardous materials incidents and radiological emergencies.

The primary service area of the RWFD’s EMS Division is 260 sq. miles, which includes:

MN:  City of Red Wing, Prairie Island Indian Community, all or portions of Wacouta, Welch Featherstone, Hay Creek, Vasa, Goodhue, Belvidere and Florence Townships

WI:  All or portions of Diamond Bluff, Isabelle, Trenton and Hartland Townships
