Information about the MCHS - Albert Lea EMS:
Albert Lea’s EMS/ambulance service celebrated 27 years of service to the Albert Lea and Freeborn County area on Feb. 1, 2013. We are a hospital based ALS ambulance service that works primarily out of the ER when not on ambulance calls. We run 12 hour shifts where we have 2 ALS crews staffed during the day and 1 ALS crew in house at night with 1 ALS crew on-call. One of the things we take a great deal of pride in, is that we get the opportunity to continue providing care for our patients that we bring into the hospital after a 911 call, thus adding to the patients continuity of care.
We are happy to announce that our service will become part of Gold Cross Ambulance on March 1, 2013. Gold Cross Ambulance is a service of Mayo Clinic Medical Transport, which includes Mayo One, Mayo MedAir and Mayo Emergency Communications Center.
Other than rebranded uniforms and ambulances, we don't expect a noticeable change for our patients, other emergency services agencies or law enforcement. Albert Lea EMS has been working closely with Gold Cross Ambulance for 10+ years and already shares patient care guidelines and equipment making this an easier transition for all involved. Albert Lea’s Gold Cross crew, led by Mike Juntunen, will continue to be based at the hospital and their job responsibilities will not change.
Together, the team at Albert Lea and Gold Cross are backed by nearly 80 years of EMS service and experience. Gold Cross began operations in 1962, becoming part of Mayo Clinic in 1994.
